Learn to integrate your thoughts and feelings — moving beyond purely rational or purely emotional responses towards a deeper, centred knowing.
"The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift."
Albert Einstein
Thinking, logical, evidence-based — the powerful capacity to plan, organise, and solve problems
Feeling, instinctive, passionate — the emotional heart that colours our experience and drives us to act
The integration of both — intuition, inner peace, and a deep knowing that is neither purely thought nor feeling
Discover which mind you lean on most and which you need to cultivate to access Wise Mind more often
We all move between Rational Mind and Emotional Mind depending on the situation. Neither is bad — both are essential. The goal is to develop the capacity to access Wise Mind: where thoughts and feelings integrate and we experience a deeper, centred knowing.
Thinking, logical, evidence-based. Focused on facts, planning, organising and problem-solving. These skills are primarily housed in the frontal lobes of the brain.
Integration of the rational and emotional. Intuition. A quiet sense of peace, knowing, and being centred — when thoughts and feelings come together as one.
Strong emotional states arising from the Amygdala. Feelings rooted in early experience that can both enrich life and influence or distort thinking.
Work through the four exercises below. The goal is not to eliminate either Rational or Emotional Mind — both are valuable — but to deepen your self-awareness and increase your access to Wise Mind: the integrated, grounded state where your best decisions are made.
Thinking rationally is an enormous asset. What does your Rational Mind help you with in your life? When do you rely on it most — and what would be harder without it?
Emotional Mind is not the enemy of good thinking — it is also essential. It drives creativity, connection, love, passion, and moral courage. What does your Emotional Mind give you that logic alone cannot?
Wise Mind is the state where thoughts and feelings come together — where you know and feel something to be true at the same time, from your core. It is often quiet, calm, and certain without being cold or detached. Recall and describe a specific moment when you experienced this.
Consider how you tend to operate. Most of us lean more heavily on one type of mind — and most of us have blind spots. Honest reflection here is the beginning of greater balance.
